The heart of the Netherlands is known for its grand preparations for this holiday season, and wandering the streets will make it impossible not to get caught up in the Christmas spirit. In this guide, we’ll share the must-try activities for Christmas 2025, to make the cold northern winter more enjoyable!
Ice skating

An annual Amsterdam tradition not to be missed is the ice skating rink in Museumplein. Here, you can skate while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Rijksmuseum for €8 if you have your own skates, or €15 if you rent them. After skating, you can enjoy a hot chocolate in the café next to the rink to warm up and relax. From December 4th to 28th, you can also visit the Christmas markets that will open in Museumplein.
The ice skating rink is open from November 15th to February 6th, every day from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Funky Xmas Market

If you need to do some gift shopping, you’ll find everything you’re looking for at the lively Christmas markets in Westergas. On December 21st, a one-day market will be held, offering not only souvenirs, but also traditional food and drinks, engaging shows, and live music.
Dam Square Christmas Tree

Undoubtedly the star of the city’s decorations is the tree in Dam Square, which will be lit in a magnificent ceremony in front of the Royal Palace on December 16th. Adorned with more than 40,000 LED lights and standing approximately 20 meters tall, the tree will remain lit until early January. Don’t miss it and make sure to capture some fabulous photos!
Winter Paradise

A real-life wonderland is set up every year at the RAI Center in Amsterdam. Winter Paradise, open from December 13, 2025, to January 3, 2026, hosts Christmas markets, restaurants, ice skating, live music, and fabulous attractions from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Ticket prices are flexible based on dates, but generally start at €24.
